I'm a Windscribe subscriber (ControlD parent company), and I've tried their DNS standalone service, but it's not as flexible and robust as NextDNS. Their free tier has categories that you can choose to best suit your blocking needs, and they likely have more servers (4ms when I ping from São Paulo, Brazil). If anything, ControlD is a better free option than AdGuard. Their paid plans also limit the number of devices, servers and monthly queries – it's not a good deal. They can offer all they want, it's a no-go if the response time is 50 times slower. (NextDNS currently has servers in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Fortaleza, Salvador, Brasília) I honestly don't see how they could improve the core service any further, but I would like three things: a status page for disclosing possible outages the ability to block/whitelist any domain while checking the logs servers in the west region of Brazil. I was happy with all the options provided, so I decided to upgrade to the annual Pro plan, so I could use it to block ads and threats on my whole network. I had a generous limit of DNS queries per month that would follow my configuration, but if the limit was exceeded, NextDNS would act like a regular DNS server, still resolving queries but not applying any custom rules.Īt first, I just wanted to rewrite a few domains to point to my local server, since I'm a web dev (10+ years). I used the free plan for six months or so on my phone, there were no features locked behind a paywall. For anyone reading this: you can test the service yourself and reach your own conclusion – NextDNS.io has a free plan, no credit card required. I am a developer of over 20 years, and am baffled as to what work is actually being done on this product. I can no longer recommend this service in good faith as well. While NextDNS is a quality product, due to lack of new development and zero input on glaring bugs, you've shown you aren't listening to your customers. It also supports QUIC, and is the only vendor to do so. Adguard is leaps and bounds better, and allows configuring separate DNS servers (NextDNS would call these "configuration profiles" but it's a much weaker concept in NDNS) and has much better reporting. I hope the developers are paying attention, b/c they have made a masterclass on how to lose customers: Zero innovation. I haven't seen any new features in well over a year, and the proxy app for Windows machines is an absolute joke compared to the competition. I've been a long time user of NextDNS, and have decided that due to lack of new features, as well as zero feedback on bug reports, that this project is all but dead.
